Workplace Bias

ORDER INSTRUCTIONS

The kind of working relationships that exist between employees and employers influence the social and economic order in many ways. Workplace bias is an issue that undermines productivity and performance. Good employee-employee and employer-employee relations are products of civilization and education. According to Mann & Roberts (2015), discriminating against a certain race, gender, and group of persons can cause irreparable damages to both the company and the effected individuals.

Therefore, there is need to strengthen the anti-discrimination ideals to trim down the few cases reported in the United States each day. The country needs the finest practices to realize a responsive labor market. The reality is that the extent of scrutiny, time, and quality of information dedicated to training and public awareness can influence the workplace culture. The objective based on the argument of Berger (2015), is to create an environment that is bias free. Institutions like the U.S. Equality Employment Opportunity Commission have formulated recommendations with the aim of creating awareness about the illegality of unfair employment practices.

BUILDING AN ETHICS-BASED WORKPLACE CULTURE-SLP

The Chief Ethics Officer

Our SLP article this module will also consider the efforts a company needs to put forth in establishing a workable ethics program but will do so by examining the role of the individual in charge of organizational ethics at a large corporation. And though you may not ever be asked to serve as a Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, it is good to contemplate the responsibilities of this position.

Unlike the titles CEO, CFO or COO, the Ethics Officer role is frequently not understood. Neither are some of the difficulties individuals face serving in that role. As a student of business ethics, it is important to understand how organizational structure and leadership can help to facilitate a successful ethics effort within an organization.

Assignment Overview

Formulate approaches to making ethical decisions in difficult situations.
In this assignment, you will be asked to consider the role of organizational leaders with respect to ensuring companies work to create an ethical workplace culture. It is important for all upper-level leaders to ‘walk the talk’ so to speak. In addition, many larger companies have a Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer who provides leadership and oversight to the company’s business ethics related endeavors.

Recall that Lockheed Martin has such an executive level position. However, not all companies have such a position. In this assignment, you will be asked to discuss the contributions of executive leaders and of the Ethics Officer with respect to building an organization that values workplace ethics.
