The local foods that I found worth demonstrating for my nutrition class are berries and apples.
Taste: The taste of berries and apple I found at the grocery stores was crispy and fresh. They tasted better than those shipped from abroad. The apple and berries had an original taste since they were picked recently not more than two days. Ideally, when I compared the apples and berries with the shipped one I figured there was a huge difference. They were directly plucked from the farms before they were bought at the grocery hence possessing an original taste. Needless to say, I have never thought about the taste of fresh apples and berries before, now I think I will purchase more of them. I realized how apples and beetroots have assisted me in maintain proper health because it provides me with a variety of nutrients. Organic apples and berries are GMO- proven and this causes harm to most people. They lack genuine nutrients to fight off diseases.
Feasibility: Eating apples and berries from the grocery has changed my perspective on the source of foods in my diets. I have become keen when it comes to choosing grocery foods as opposed to the shipped foods. Whenever shipped apples and beetroots are delayed they lose their nutritional value and vitality. This is because of the harmful effect of chemicals and other genetically modified substances. This aspect has made me transform my diet and I would prefer stocking my refrigerator with apples and berries from the grocery. In addition, I shared my experience with my friends and I explained that I have preferred eating apples and berries from the grocery because they cause no harm to my body system since they have kept me healthy and active because physically I was fit and mentally I was alert. My quest apples and berries has become continuous because they readily available in the groceries. Moreover, they preserve genetic diversity meaning that they can withstand and sustain shelf life in the stores. They can be frozen and distributed yearly. Prices of shipped apples and berries tend to be high as opposed to the ones pruned at the farms. This is because of the custom taxes charged on shipping or transporting. On the other hand they are very convenient and ready to get. Since they are perishable vendors prefer to sell them at cheaper and affordable prices.
Nutrition: Dieticians and/or health providers should support intake of local apples and berries as opposed to the organic types. This is because apples and berries that are direct from the grocery are not succumbed to plastic packaging or use of chemical preservatives to keep them fresh thus retaining their nutritional value. Processing of produce, transportation and packing many times lead to nutritional and loses. Apples and Berries from the grocery are beneficial because they possess favorable calories and, it is heavy in nutrients hence it helps me meet my dietary needs as opposed to the organic types. A combination of fibers in apple and berries reduces the risks of chronic diseases such as stroke and high blood pressure. Whenever I would take organic apples and beetroots I would experience stomach aches, blotting of digestive track. Later on I discovered that these organic foods had a lot of toxic substances since they were genetically modified. The modification would get rid of calories and nutrients that can be of help to the body system. I have never experienced digestive or respiratory problems when I started taking local apples and berries because they contain the required calories and a balanced set of nutrients.
